Local Pope HS graduate, Brandon Matos, Paralyzed in Accident

Just weeks ago during his college spring break trip to Panama City Beach, Florida, Brandon Matos was involved in an unfortunate, freak accident while in the ocean.  From the accident, Brandon is paralyzed from the chest down.  Brandon is now at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is receiving the best care in the country and starting his extensive regiments of daily therapy.

Brandon is a freshman at Georgia Southern University and recent honors graduate from Pope High School in Marietta, Georgia.  As many already know, Brandon is a special young man who possesses high moral character, tremendous athleticism, and an awesome and contagious zest for life that makes everyone he meets want to spend more time with him.   An accomplished scholar athlete, Brandon spent four years playing baseball for the Pope HS Greyhounds.  Growing up in Marietta, Brandon played baseball with East Side Baseball and then played travel ball with East Cobb Baseball.  Brandon and his older brother Taylor worked for 6-4-3 DP Athletics at the Aviation Sports Complex this past summer and during recent weekends.

Please help us rally support for Brandon!

To support Brandon and his recovery, 6-4-3 DP Athletics is privileged to  sponsor the origination of the Brandon Matos Benefit Fund.  The fund has been set up for the specific purpose of defraying the costs associated with Brandon’s needed care.  The fund has been established with SunTrust Bank.  We extend sincere gratitude to Omar Arredondo, VP at SunTrust and Matos family friend, and Norbert Cardenas, another long time Matos Family friend, for their time and energy in assisting with the start up of the fund.

Making a contribution to the fund is simple.  If you live in an area that has a SunTrust Bank branch, go into the branch and inform them you wish to make a contribution to the Brandon Matos Benefit Fund.  You can make a contribution anywhere in the country where there is a SunTrust Bank branch.  If you live in an area that does not have a SunTrust Bank branch, then you can simply make a check payable to the Brandon Matos Benefit Fund and mail it to the following address:

The principals, staff, teams and families that make up the 6-4-3 DP Athletics family continue to send positive thoughts and prayers toward the entire Matos family - Brandon, Cindy (mother), Eliud (father) and Taylor (brother).  We are excited about Brandon’s immediate progress and will continue to support him throughout his long recovery.  Brandon’s accident has changed his life and his family’s.  Brandon’s recovery will be long and quite expensive.  As an organization, 6-4-3 is trying to connect with our many friends and colleagues who make up other baseball organizations and teams throughout Georgia and the greater United States.  Our hope is that individuals and groups, once having heard of Brandon’s accident, might feel compelled to support Brandon’s recovery by making a contribution to the Brandon Matos Benefit Fund.

For those interested, you can follow Brandon’s progress and post notes of encouragement via www.caringbridge.org/visit/brandonmatos.  Above all, please keep the Matos family - especially Brandon - in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
