6-4-3 DP Baseball's combined 14U squad wins Mountain View Classic

Marietta, Georgia -

The 6-4-3 DP Baseball 14U age group claimed their second tournament title of the season in the Mountain View Classic this past weekend. Utilizing a combined roster of Jaguars and Cougars players (due to temporary absence of many players competing on high/middle school teams at this time), the 14U group went 5-0 on the weekend.

The talented 6-4-3 group began the tournament playing against the East Side Tigers. 6-4-3 jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the East Side Tigers answered back in the bottom half to lead by the score of 4-1. The 6-4-3 squad answered with four runs in the next inning and ultimately won by a the score of 11-4 - collecting 16 hits in the game and not committing an error. In game two of pool play action, 6-4-3 faced off against the Kennesaw Generals and won by the score of 8-4.

Based on the pool play results, 6-4-3 secured the number three seed for the remainder of the tournament with their first bracket play game against the familiar Kennesaw Generals. The Kennesaw Generals jumped out to an early lead by the score of 2-0 until the bottom of the third inning where 6-4-3 put up a five spot and led 5-2. In the top half of the fourth inning, Kennesaw pushed back with three runs to knot the game in a tie. In the bottom of the fourth inning, 6-4-3 put up two more runs and would hold on to win by the score of 9-6. Griffin Brown started on the mound and had very good control of his fastball.  Brown left the game in the fourth inning handing the ball to Cameron Bloodworth who only allowed only two hits and one run the rest of the way.  Offensively, 6-4-3 was led by Trevor Brooks with two RBIs and Cameron Bloodworth with two big key hits.

Game two of bracket play matched 6-4-3 against the West Cobb Heat. 6-4-3 put up runs throughout the game, ending the game with an 8-0 victory. Matt Martin was dominate on the mound hurling five, shutout innings while only allowing three hits. Jack Polhemus threw the last inning to close the game out. Offensively, 6-4-3 was led by Gregory Boland and Ryan Miller who contributed two big hits apiece. 6-4-3 was also aggressive on the bases with stolen bags recorded by Jack Polhemus, Billy Zinnershine, Brett Potts, Ben Harris and Griffin Brown.

The bracket play victories led 6-4-3 to match up against the East Cobb Select in the championship game. The 6-4-3 squad jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and would never look back as they took the championship by a score of 10-2. In the final, Ben Harris pitched “lights out” as he logged four innings of no hit baseball with six strikeouts.  Harris had pinpoint command of all three pitches and also recorded a walk off, inside-the-park grand slam!  Patrick Taylor pitched the final inning and closed out the game. The weekend as a whole was an all-around team effort and showed the chemistry the players have created over the past 5 weeks. Congratulations to the players and coaches from both the 14U Cougars and 14U Jaguars on their combined squad success this weekend.
