The 6-4-3 DP Cougars 9U squad won the Challenge Cup of the Travel Ball National Championship this past weekend in Marietta. The Cougars fell out of contention for the gold bracket after losing its first two games. After its losses, the team decided to change its luck by switching to their lucky pink jerseys for its Thursday games. The Cougars swept their last two pool games and went 4-0 on the weekend to take the Challenge Cup Championship. When wearing the pink jerseys, the 9U Cougars are undefeated (9-0 overall record). 6-4-3 wears these pink jerseys every year in order to raise funds for breast cancer research. Not only did the Cougars win all its games after switching to their pink jerseys, they dominated. The offense was at its best this weekend, allowing the team to beat some of the best travel teams in the country. Luke Hvizdak, Harrison Weber, and Brandon Trichell lead the team at the plate. The 9U Cougars defeated teams from Alabama, Illinois, Wisconsin, and California before meeting theirs rivals, the Georgia Bandits, in the last two games. The Cougars’ offense carried them through the first game with a 21-10 win over the Bandits. In the championship game, Braden Pierce and Cooper Davidson made the contest all about pitching. They held the potent Bandit lineup to only two runs in the Cougars’ 4-2 championship win. Congratulations to the 9U Cougars for their solid tournament performance!
