6-4-3 DP Baseball's 9U Cougars win USSSA Global World Series

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina -

The 6-4-3 DP Cougars (9U) squad won the USSSA Global World Series in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this past week.  The Cougars were dominant in pool play, earning the number 1 overall seed by going 4-0 and out scoring their opponents 62 to 15. In the first bracket game, the Cougars were led in the field by AJ DeMastrie who pitched three strong innings and at the plate by Ryan Novak who had 3 RBIs and Luke Hvizdak who had 2 hits.  These outstanding performances lead the Cougars to an 18-3 win in 3 innings.  The Cougars then suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to RBA South, despite the stellar pitching of Cooper Davidson.  In order to become the champions they would now need to battle out of the loser’s bracket which meant they needed four wins on Sunday. The Cougars used 3 RBI from Harrison Weber and solid pitching from Novak to defeat the Tennessee Stars in Sunday’s first game.  In the second game of the day, Ramsey Robertson pitched a complete game and Brandon Trichell had a big, two run double as the Cougars beat the Coastal Crush by the score of 9-1.  In the third game of the day, the Cougars played a tough game against the Carolina Havoc.  Zeke Moore had 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and played outstanding defense at third base. Weber and Davidson also pitched outstanding in the win, holding the Havoc to just 2 runs in the 6-2 victory. The Championship game was now a rematch between the RBA South and the Cougars.  Braden Pierce took the mound in the Championship game and held RBA hitless through four innings  thanks in part to the outstanding defense of KK Towe at shortstop.  The Cougars broke through with an RBI from DJ Irizarry in addition to RBIs from Novak and DeMastrie for a 3-0 lead in the third inning.  RBA South was able to record their first hit and run in the fifth before Pierce worked out of a first and second base jam with a strikeout to end the inning.  KK Towe came on to pitch the sixth inning and got the first out on a fantastic sliding grab by Irizarry in centerfield before setting down the last 2 batters quietly to seal the win. This was Irizarry's last game with 6-4-3 as he and his family move to Florida in August. Coach Steve Robertson presented DJ with his coaches' championship plaque after the win to show how much DJ will be missed.  Good luck DJ, you will always be part of the 6-4-3 family!

Congratulations to the entire 9U Cougars team for their stellar tournament performance in Myrtle Beach!
