On Sunday, June 26th, the 2016 6-4-3 DP Baseball Summer Invitational tournament came to a slow close after several rain and lightning delays. Despite the oppressive heat and Sunday's weather delays, the tournament featured a great weekend of baseball competition and was indeed a success. 6-4-3 DP Baseball thanks the ten, talented teams that participated: Team Demarini National, East Cobb Eagles, 6-4-3 DP Tigers, 6-4-3 DP Cougars, 6-4-3 DP Jaguars, NSTA Naturals, Team DeMarini/NSTA, Team DeMarini American, East Cobb Cardinals, and the Chattanooga Mustangs.
After a solid round of pool play spanning Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning, four teams emerged for semi-final action on Sunday afternoon: NSTA Naturals, East Cobb Cardinals, East Cobb Eagles, and Team DeMarini American. In the tournament's first semi-final game, the NSTA Naturals defeated the East Cobb Cardinals by the score of 4-1 to advance to the championship game. The NSTA Naturals, in addition to winning their semi-final game, won three out of four games in pool play. The Naturals only loss came on Friday night against Team DeMarini/NSTA (final score = 6-1). In the tournament's second semi-final game, the East Cobb Eagles defeated Team DeMarini American by the score of 9-5 to advance to the championship game to face the NSTA Naturals. The East Cobb Eagles, in addition to winning their semi-final game, also won three out of four games in pool play. The Eagles only loss came on Saturday night against the NTSA Naturals (final score = 4-3). However, in the championship game on Sunday night with the East Cobb Eagles and the NSTA Naturals squaring off against each other for the second time in 24 hours, it was the East Cobb Eagles that emerged as champions with a final score of 12-7.
